x402 Books: per-call revenue records for APIs paid in sub-10-cent stablecoin payments

Accounting and analytics layer that turns thousands of tiny agent payments into books. Indie API sellers pay.

Early · 138M agent payments, 87% under 10¢

Next step

This week, index Base USDC transfers to five public x402 endpoints, build a CSV journal export, and offer it free to the authors of laravel-x402 and other x402 repos via GitHub issues.

Why now

What changed: Chainalysis measured agentic commerce on Base going from about 1,500 transactions in Q2 2025 to 138M+ in Q3 2026, with over 87% under 10 cents. That makes it a volume problem. A seller with 50,000 four-cent payments a month cannot reconcile them by hand, and neither accounting tools nor block explorers group them by endpoint, customer agent or tax period.

What became possible

x402 middleware now exists for mainstream stacks (one-line Laravel middleware, non-custodial). Stripe-owned wallets reach the XRP Ledger, and Mastercard and BVNK just joined fiat and stablecoin rails. Charging agents per call is now a config change.

Two ways in

  1. x402 Books

Read-only wallet watcher that matches incoming x402 payments to API endpoints and request logs, rolls them into daily journal entries, and exports to Xero and QuickBooks with fiat value at receipt time

    Customer
Indie API and data sellers who added x402 middleware
    Model
    Free under 1,000 payments a month, then $15 to $99 a month
  2. Agent customer analytics

Dashboard showing which paying agents (by wallet) call which endpoints, churn, and price sensitivity when you change the per-call price

    Customer
Same sellers, plus MCP server authors
    Model
    Part of the paid tier

Competition

Early

I found no product that matches x402 payments to endpoints and request logs, rolls them into journal entries with fiat value at receipt, and exports to Xero or QuickBooks. What exists is raw on-chain data from Allium and Substreams, network-wide explorers like x402scan and x402stats, single-app dashboards like ActumX, and general crypto accounting tools that know nothing about x402.

Full competition notes (9 competitors)

I found no product that matches x402 payments to endpoints and request logs, rolls them into journal entries with fiat value at receipt, and exports to Xero or QuickBooks. What exists is raw on-chain data from Allium and Substreams, network-wide explorers like x402scan and x402stats, single-app dashboards like ActumX, and general crypto accounting tools that know nothing about x402. The real threat is Stripe. Its x402 machine payments put each payment into the normal Stripe reporting and connector system, so sellers who settle through Stripe are largely covered already. The best opening is indie sellers who settle to their own wallet or Coinbase accounts through CDP, PayAI or other facilitators instead of Stripe. These sellers have thousands of tiny payments per day that need joining to their middleware logs and grouping into daily summarized entries rather than one line per payment, and nobody does that well today. The agent analytics idea (per-wallet cohorts, churn, response to price changes) is also open, but it is easier to copy because facilitators and middleware SDKs could add it cheaply. The main risks are a small paying market, Stripe adding similar summaries, Coinbase or the facilitators shipping seller dashboards, and generic crypto accounting tools adding an x402 tag. I didn't check inside the CDP or PayAI portals, so seller dashboards there may already exist. Pairing the product with tax handling or an export accountants trust would give it a stronger moat than a dashboard alone.

  • Stripe machine payments (x402 on Base)

Since February 2026 sellers can accept x402 USDC payments through Stripe. Each payment becomes a PaymentIntent, and tax, refunds and reporting go through Stripe's existing tools, so Stripe-based sellers already reach Xero and QuickBooks through connectors like A2X and Synder. This is the biggest threat for sellers who settle through Stripe.

  • ActumX dashboard

Dashboard with x402 transaction history, settlement events, cost breakdowns and API endpoint usage. It covers only its own app, not a general seller accounting layer, and has no ledger export.

  • agentwallet-mcp get_x402_revenue

MCP tool that returns a user's total x402 revenue across their paywalls by chain and token. It does not break revenue down by tool or endpoint and does not export to accounting software.

  • Allium x402 dataset

Data warehouse tables of x402 transfers on Base with daily metrics by facilitator and receiving address. Raw data a competitor could build on, not a product for sellers.

  • x402-base-pulse Substreams package

Community indexer producing per-payer, per-recipient and daily aggregate tables of x402 settlements on Base. Open-source building block, not a product.

  • x402stats

Network-wide stats: daily volume, active sellers and facilitator market share. Nothing at the level of an individual seller.

  • x402scan

Open-source explorer that tracks x402 servers, transactions and resource usage across the network. An ecosystem view, not a seller ledger or analytics product.

  • Koinly / Ledgible / Cryptoworth / Blockpath

General crypto accounting tools that sync on-chain and stablecoin transactions with fiat values into Xero or QuickBooks. They don't know about x402 endpoints or request logs and aren't built to roll up huge numbers of sub-cent payments, but they could add an x402 mode.

  • Coinbase CDP x402 facilitator

The default production facilitator; it verifies and settles payments, and payouts can go to Coinbase Business or other wallets. Its docs show no seller analytics or accounting export, but Coinbase is well placed to add them.

Risks

  • Much of the 138M volume may be test traffic or wash activity, not real buyers
  • Per-seller revenue at sub-10-cent prices may be too small to support a subscription
  • Coinbase or Stripe may ship native reporting
