x402 Books: turn sub-cent agent payments into ledger entries
Books x402 stablecoin micropayments as revenue in QuickBooks, Xero and NetSuite. Finance teams at API sellers pay.
Early · 138M agent payments, mostly sub-10c

Next step
Call the maintainers of requestway/laravel-x402, ask for intros to the first three Laravel shops charging agents through it, and ask each one's bookkeeper how they recorded last month's x402 revenue.
Why now
Promoted from the watchlist because two things changed: volume is real, and the sellers are now mainstream web shops whose bookkeepers use QuickBooks and Xero. Nobody can book a million 3-cent payments one by one. The seller needs daily revenue entries per customer, netted fees, a USDC-to-fiat valuation and a match to the wallet balance. The middleware is non-custodial, so the seller's own wallet is the only record, and nobody reconciles it. Ripple adding Stripe wallets means a second and third chain are coming.
What became possible
Chainalysis counts 138M+ agentic transactions on Base in Q3 2026, up from about 1,500 in Q2 2025, and 87%+ were under 10 cents. x402 now ships as one-line Laravel middleware that never holds funds, so ordinary PHP SaaS shops can charge agents, not just crypto-native teams.
Three ways in
- x402 Books core
Reads the seller's wallet and the middleware's 402 receipt logs, matches each paid request to an on-chain transfer, and posts daily summarized journal entries with a per-payer subledger to QuickBooks, Xero or NetSuite.
- Customer
- Finance lead or outsourced bookkeeper at an API company with x402 turned on
- Model
- $99–$499 per month, tiered by transaction volume
- Receipt log plugin
Free drop-in package for laravel-x402 and the Express x402 middleware that writes a signed, standard receipt log the ledger can ingest.
- Customer
- Developers adding x402 to their APIs
- Model
- Free and open source, used as the sales funnel for the paid ledger
- Agent spend statements
The buying side of the same ledger: monthly statements showing what a company's agents paid to which APIs, coded to cost centers.
- Customer
- Finance teams at AI startups running agent fleets
- Model
- Per-wallet monthly fee
Competition
There are real risks. Sellers who accept x402 through Stripe's preview already get PaymentIntents in their Stripe balance and can use the usual Stripe-to-QuickBooks and Xero connectors, which takes away part of the market. Intuit's USDC work with Circle, and Coinbase or other facilitators adding seller reporting, could also shrink the gap. The total market is still small: one vendor-reported figure, dated April 2026, puts x402 at about $24M in monthly volume across many tiny payments. That makes this a niche wedge unless it grows into broader agent-payment bookkeeping that also covers Stripe's other agent-payment rail (MPP) and other protocols.
Full competition notes (6 competitors)
This space is early. I found one direct x402 seller bookkeeping product, Stubly, which is in early access and works from webhooks. It produces receipts and exports to QuickBooks and Xero. x402receipts covers the buyer side. The general crypto subledgers (Bitwave, Cryptio, Lukka and others) handle wallets and cost basis but don't understand x402. A new entrant could still win on three things these tools don't seem to do. The first is reading the seller's receiving wallet and the facilitator's settlement data directly, so it doesn't depend on the seller wiring up webhooks. The second is attributing revenue by paying agent and endpoint, then booking clean daily summary journal entries instead of thousands of tiny transactions. The third is handling cost basis and the USDC-to-fiat off-ramp for small vendors who find Bitwave-class tools too expensive or too heavy. There are real risks. - Stubly
This is the closest direct match. It is an early-access, seller-side tool that receives x402 payment webhooks, removes duplicate events, generates PDF receipts, keeps a transaction record and exports to CSV, QuickBooks and Xero. I found no sign that it watches wallets on-chain, groups payments by paying agent and endpoint, or handles stablecoin-to-fiat cost basis.
- x402receipts
An open-source SDK and MCP server that turns each x402 purchase into a reconciled receipt, matching outgoing USDC on Base and Solana against receipts. It works for the buyer or agent operator, not the API seller, but the same approach could be pointed at incoming payments.
- Stripe machine payments (x402 preview)
Stripe accepts x402 USDC on Base, records each settlement as a PaymentIntent and settles to the Stripe balance. Reporting, tax and refunds go through Stripe's existing tools, so sellers on Stripe get bookkeeping through the usual Stripe-to-QuickBooks and Xero connectors. It is a preview, open to US businesses only, and the PaymentIntent and balance details come from a third-party guide that I did not check against Stripe's docs.
- Bitwave (stablecoin subledger and Bitwave Agentic)
A mature crypto and stablecoin subledger that says it syncs to QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite and Sage Intacct and tracks USDC. It is now marketing an agentic-finance product in early access. It is not x402-specific, but it already covers wallet ingestion and cost basis for larger customers.
- Cryptio, Lukka, SoftLedger, TaxBit
General crypto accounting and subledger vendors, named as competitors on a Bitwave comparison page. They can ingest a receiving wallet and post to a general ledger. I found nothing showing they parse x402 receipts or attribute payments to agents or endpoints.
- Intuit and Circle USDC partnership
Intuit has announced that it will bring USDC payments into QuickBooks, with details due in 2026. This could eventually reduce the need for third-party stablecoin syncing for small businesses, but no x402-specific feature has been announced.

Risks
- Coinbase or Stripe could ship native accounting exports
- Much of the sub-10-cent volume may be test or bot loops, not paying customers
- Tax treatment of stablecoin receipts varies by jurisdiction
- Early sellers are small and price-sensitive
