Corridor Check: fiat-versus-stablecoin payout pricing, now that the networks offer both

Pooled settlement data comparing fiat and stablecoin payout routes, corridor by corridor. Cross-border payout firms pay.

Early · Visa Direct USDC prefunding goes live

Written for: Small startup team

Next step

Call the head of treasury at a mid-size remittance or payroll payout firm that prefunds Visa Direct. Ask which three corridors they would move to USDC prefunding if they had a month of real settlement-time data, and whether they would share their own data to get it.

Why now

What changed: when this was on the watchlist, a fiat-versus-stablecoin comparison meant juggling separate vendors. Now a payout firm can choose per corridor inside Visa, Mastercard or Stripe, and that choice needs independent numbers on settlement time, fees, FX spread and failures. Neo's survey makes the gap clear: 88% of SME finance leads think stablecoins would improve B2B collections, but only 27% accept them. Circle expanding to 40 new markets adds corridors to compare.

What became possible

Fiat and stablecoin payout routes now sit inside the same vendors. Visa Direct took USDC prefunding into commercial production with Inyo Global. Mastercard joined its fiat network and BVNK's stablecoin rails behind one API. Stripe simplified Global Payouts.

Two ways in

  1. Shared settlement index

Members contribute anonymised payout outcomes. Corridor Check publishes per-corridor medians and tail times for fiat and stablecoin routes.

Competition

Early

Nobody I found offers a neutral, multi-provider service that produces signed, auditor-ready evidence of best execution for stablecoin-to-fiat payouts. Routers (Borderless, Bitso, Dfns) measure their own performance, and Borderless publishes only network-level medians.

Full competition notes (6 competitors)

Nobody I found offers a neutral, multi-provider service that produces signed, auditor-ready evidence of best execution for stablecoin-to-fiat payouts. Routers (Borderless, Bitso, Dfns) measure their own performance, and Borderless publishes only network-level medians. I found no traditional TCA vendor, no assurance standard (SOC/ISAE) and no analytics firm (Kaiko, Artemis, Allium) covering payout-side failures or settlement times per provider, though I only ran one search on those three. A new entrant could win by being the independent third party: per-trade comparison of quoted vs. executed vs. benchmark rates, reconciled against transaction hashes and the bank's final status; failure and settlement-time scorecards per provider and corridor, which nobody publishes; and coverage across routers, including firms with direct off-ramp integrations. Risks: Borderless already holds the corridor data and could add per-client reports cheaply; rates that bundle in fees make clean measurement hard; demand depends on regulators (MiCA, money-transmitter rules) or bank partners requiring proof of best execution; and measuring failures needs customer logs, which means integration work up front.

  • Borderless (Parity Gap benchmark)

Quarterly benchmark of 260 corridors in 108 countries (about 2.96M rate observations) comparing delivered stablecoin pricing to the interbank mid. Closest overlap, but Borderless is itself a routing network, so it isn't neutral. Figures are network medians, not per-firm attestations, and include provider fees.

  • Dfns Payouts

Payout API launched March 2026 on top of the Borderless network. Moves traffic away from a provider that degrades in a corridor. Tracks reliability internally but offers no independent attestation.

  • Bitso Stablecoin Orchestration

Routes automatically across chains and payment partners along the 'fastest, most cost-effective, most reliable' paths. The provider grades its own routing.

  • Eco (stablecoin best-execution analytics)

Publishes a best-execution framework (spread, slippage, settlement certainty, reconciliation against transaction hashes, report templates) aimed at onchain and RFQ trading rather than fiat payout routes. Unclear whether it is a product or just content.

  • StableRoute

Hackathon prototype that ranks stablecoin routes by total landed cost across 10 corridors and 7 chains. Not a commercial product.

  • Academic corridor cost benchmarks (BIS/IMF-linked/HBS presentations)

Research measuring all-in stablecoin corridor costs from World Bank remittance data and scraped quotes. Snapshots, not a commercial service.

Risks

  • A shared data network has a cold-start problem, and the first five contributors are hard to win
  • Networks may discourage sharing pricing data
  • The networks' own routing may make outside advice look redundant
