Next step

Build a Xero app prototype this week that adds a USDC pay address to an invoice and auto-marks it paid on a matching onchain transfer. Offer it free to ten freelance developers who invoice overseas clients, found on r/freelance and the Xero community forum.

Why now

What changed since the last Stable Invoice card: a measured gap between interest and actual acceptance, and a card layer that now lets recipients spend USDC easily. Spending is solved. Receiving a USDC payment and booking it in the accounting tool is where SMEs still get stuck.

What became possible

Spending stablecoins is now handled by big players. Stripe and Plasma are launching multi-currency stablecoin cards, Marqeta's customers can issue Coinbase-backed stablecoin cards, and Visa Direct has USDC prefunding in commercial production. Neo's research says 88% of finance leads at international SMEs think stablecoins could improve B2B collections, yet only 27% accept them.

Two ways in

  1. Xero pay-link app

Adds a USDC address and amount to each invoice, watches the chain, marks the invoice paid and books any FX difference when the transfer lands.

Competition

Crowded

The workflow pitched here, a USDC invoice paid to the merchant's own wallet, watched on-chain and posted to Xero or QuickBooks, is already sold by Request Finance, Loop Crypto, Breezing, Acctual and Bitwave. Request Finance does it non-custodially and charges freelancers almost nothing, so a monthly subscription for the same features would be hard to justify.

The freelancer AR report overlaps with Koinly-style tax tools and works better as a free add-on than as a product of its own. The opening that looks underserved is the reverse geography: exporters based in LatAm and Asia rather than Western firms billing clients there. Their books live in local systems and local currencies, for example Mexican CFDI e-invoices, Brazilian NF-e, India's Tally, or Alegra and Siigo in Latin America. They need USDC receipts booked at FX rates their regulators accept, plus the paperwork for export income and currency rules. None of the tools found here target that. A newcomer could win with local-accountant workflows and support for local tax and e-invoicing rules, rather than with on-chain matching, which is already common.

  • Request Finance (Request Network)

Non-custodial stablecoin invoicing (USDC, USDT, EURe) on the open-source Request Network protocol. Third-party listings say it has QuickBooks Online and Xero sync. Free for freelancers apart from a 0.1% payer fee capped at $2, with paid business tiers. This is the most direct match for Stable Invoice.

  • Loop Crypto

You add a Loop checkout link to an invoice created in Xero or QuickBooks, and Loop marks the invoice paid once the on-chain payment goes through. Works on EVM chains and Solana, adds Slack alerts, and links to Entendre Finance for sorting transactions in the books.

  • Breezing

Crypto subledger and certified Xero partner. Syncs to Xero, QuickBooks Online and Bexio and closes crypto-paid AR and AP invoices without a clearing account. Listed at about $29 to $35 a month, aimed at accountants and small businesses.

  • Acctual

Circle partner offering USDC and EURC invoicing and bill pay for businesses, freelancers and DAOs, with QuickBooks and Xero integration. Circle's case study reports more than $25M in USDC processed as of October 2024.

  • Bitwave

Enterprise crypto accounting with USDC invoicing and payments plus QuickBooks and Xero integration. Pitched at larger companies more than small ones.

  • Radom

Stablecoin invoicing with installment payments, line items, discounts, automatic reminders and an API, aimed at service businesses and contractors.

  • CoinsDo

Sells wallet infrastructure that gives each invoice its own deposit address so payments match invoices automatically. This is the same reconciliation approach Stable Invoice proposes.

  • Simplileap Settlematic

Circle partner listing for stablecoin invoicing with a separate address per invoice, automatic on-chain matching, and VAT/GST reporting.

  • Koinly / Cryptio

Crypto tax and accounting tools that pull wallet transactions and produce cost-basis and income reports for accountants. This overlaps with the monthly stablecoin AR report for freelancers. Cryptio is aimed at larger companies, with implementation reportedly costing $30k to $50k.

Risks

  • Money-transmission and tax treatment vary by country, so stay non-custodial and get a lawyer's read before launch
  • Stripe or the accounting platforms may ship this natively
  • Reconciliation edge cases (partial payments, wrong chain) eat support time
  • Demand may stay concentrated in crypto-native firms
