Guarantee Desk: an agent for bank guarantee and letter-of-credit amendments at commodity traders
Agent that checks facility headroom and drafts guarantee amendments across a trader's systems; mid-size trader treasuries pay.
Competitive · Centalion agent cuts amendment time 80%
Written for: Small startup team
Next step
Call the partnerships head at Komgo, the Geneva trade-finance platform used by banks and traders, and ask whether their mid-size trader clients would take an amendment-drafting agent that sits on top of the platform.
Why now
The result shows the work is agent-shaped and that the time saved is large. Large traders build their own. Mid-size grain, metals and energy traders have the same three-system problem and no AI team. Today's cheap models make running the agent per transaction trivial, so the real cost is integration.
What became possible
Centalion, a commodity trader with $144B in revenue, reports that an AI agent cut its trade-finance amendment time by 80%. The agent does the desk work a treasury employee used to do: checking facility headroom, pulling banking details from one system, confirming limits in another and keying the transaction into a third.
Two ways in
- Amendment agent
Reads the amendment request, checks headroom on the relevant bank facility, fills in beneficiary and bank details, drafts the amendment in the bank's format and queues it for a treasurer to approve, with a full log.
- Customer
- Treasury operations heads at mid-size commodity traders
- Model
- Platform fee of $5-10k a month plus per-instrument pricing
- Facility headroom view
A live view of used and available limits across all bank guarantee and LC facilities, rebuilt from ERP and bank-portal data.
- Customer
- The same treasury teams
- Model
- Entry tier that leads into the agent
Competition
This exact workflow went live in production at Centalion (formerly Gunvor) on Komgo in October 2026. An agent checks facility capacity, applies the facility rules, prepares the issuance or amendment and queues it for a treasurer to approve, which is close to a description of the amendment agent idea.

This exact workflow went live in production at Centalion (formerly Gunvor) on Komgo in October 2026. An agent checks facility capacity, applies the facility rules, prepares the issuance or amendment and queues it for a treasurer to approve, which is close to a description of the amendment agent idea. Nomentia, Ripple Treasury and Komgo's own portal already sell the facility headroom view as a standard feature, so on its own it is not a wedge. The real threat is Komgo itself. It already holds the bank connections and instrument data for most commodity traders, has an MCP connector in production and now has a reference customer, so it can sell the agent to mid-size traders as an add-on. The remaining opening is mid-size traders whose guarantee and LC work does not run through Komgo. That means traders still using bank-specific portals, email and free-text bank templates, plus a trading ERP or CTRM such as Allegro or ION, especially regional banks in Africa, the Middle East and Asia that are not on Komgo. For them, the hard and valuable work is rebuilding facility usage from messy bank statements and SWIFT MT760/767 and MT707 messages, and drafting amendments in each bank's own wording. A new entrant would have to be bank-agnostic and ERP-agnostic, sit on top of Komgo rather than against it, and sell fast setup without IT work. The window is probably short, because Komgo and the treasury system vendors can add agent features quickly.
- Centalion x Komgo agentic treasury agent
Announced October 2026, so very recent, and the closest match to the amendment agent idea. Centalion is the Geneva commodity trader formerly known as Gunvor. Its treasury staff ask in plain language whether a facility has room to issue or amend an instrument. The agent pulls the data, applies the facility controls and prepares the transaction for a human to approve. It reads and writes through a connector built jointly with Komgo. Centalion reports issuance time down about 55% and amendment time down about 80% on the first syndicated facility. Today it is a custom build for one large trader, not a product sold to others.
- Komgo (Konsole / Global Trade Konnect, MCP connector)
Commodity trade finance platform with more than 10,000 corporate users and connections to over 60 banks. It brings LC, SBLC and guarantee requests to several banks into one portal. Its MCP connector now has a client running it in production. This makes Komgo the most likely company to turn the Centalion agent into a product for its other trader clients, including mid-size ones.
- Nomentia Guarantees
Corporate guarantee management module. It links each guarantee to a credit facility and recalculates utilisation and headroom per facility and per bank as guarantees are issued, amended or expire. It also offers SWIFT-format bank communication and ERP integration. This largely covers the facility headroom view idea.
- Ripple Treasury letter of credit module
Treasury system LC module that tracks facility utilisation across banks. Utilisation updates automatically when LCs are issued, amended or drawn, and limits that are close to or over the cap go into approval workflows. Another overlap with the headroom view.
- Surecomp
Long-standing trade finance software vendor for corporates and banks, covering the LC and guarantee lifecycle. In 2024 it was presenting API-based guarantee processing in industry-standard formats. It is an incumbent workflow system rather than an AI agent.
- HCLTech and Camunda Intelligent Letters of Credit
Agentic orchestration for LCs and payment guarantees, with a human in the loop for compliance and exception handling. It appears to be aimed mainly at banks rather than trader treasuries.
- DraftLC
AI tool that turns unstructured contracts into UCP 600-compliant MT700 LC drafts. It overlaps with the drafting step, but nothing found mentions amendments, guarantees or facility headroom checks.
- ClearDox
Commodities document AI platform whose agents handle trade confirmations and draft emails. It is next door to this idea but not focused on guarantees or LCs.

Risks
- Integrating with bank portals and trade-finance platforms is slow and differs bank by bank
- Trade-finance platforms and treasury systems vendors can add the same agent
- The buyer count is small and relationship-driven
- Errors on guarantees carry real financial and legal exposure
