Meta launches an open-weight AI model that runs on Macs
Muse Spark Open has 816B parameters in total. Even at 4-bit that is several hundred gigabytes of weights, so 'runs on a Mac' means only the highest-memory Apple machines, at modest speed and for one user at a time. For a team building products, serving it to customers still needs data-center hardware or a hosted provider. The useful local-model news this week is the much smaller Nemotron Bolt and Bonsai models.
