OpenAI's flood of AI-generated math results
The coverage frames this as a field-wide disruption, but mathematicians say they will need years to check the hundreds of manuscripts. Producing proofs was never the bottleneck; checking them is. At roughly three hours of compute per proof, with no product or API attached, there is nothing for builders to plug into. The method also depends on math's unusually clean ways of checking whether an answer is right, which compliance, credit and fraud work do not have.
